Living The Kimchi Dream

Youth culture in Seoul.

For several years in various magazines and youth magazines talk from the so-called Generation Y. A generation that is resting on the wealth of the parents, longing for self-realization and is facing the technological achievements of our modern civilization to a great extent.

Of course, you can observe the emergence of new generations in distant countries. But to what extent is the same generation similar to a completely different cultural background. Are the indicators that make up this generation, by definition comparable? If the generation cycles shifted and if so, how much?

In a photographic essay I try to express how I interpret the lifestyle of young adults in Seoul. A life in the rapidly developing South Korea, which has acquired a high status in the world by its technological progress. But progress also demands its sacrifice. A strong social pressure is part of peopleës lives in Korea and particularly in Seoul. Especially young Koreans are constantly in competition with each other. You have to work, and often alcohol is a valve to withstand the pressure.

The more someone is learning about this country, the more controversial the image gets, but is it representative? In Ñliving the kimchi dreamì Iëm looking  for the identity that defines the young population of Seoul. I will not be able to answer this question completely, but maybe I can give a better insight.
